Rainbow foil under your artwork
Holographic stickers are printed on a rainbow foil film, so the background shifts colour as it catches the light and moves. Nothing about the effect is printed — it is the film itself, an embossed reflective layer that splits light into colour — which is why it cannot be faked with ink on white vinyl and why it still looks like that years later. They are popular for merchandise, band and brand stickers, skate and gaming decals, and anything meant to be noticed on a laptop lid. You can watch a sheet come off our plotter in the gallery.
Designing for holographic
This is the part most people get wrong the first time. The effect comes from the areas you leave unprinted. A design that covers the whole sticker in solid ink will hide the foil completely and you will have paid for a film nobody can see. Leave gaps, use line art, knock shapes out of a solid background, or let the foil be the fill inside outlined lettering. Dark inks sit well over the foil; pale washes tend to grey it out. Send the artwork and we will suggest a treatment before anything is printed.
Holographic, metallic or glitter?
Holographic film gives a full rainbow shift that changes with viewing angle — the loudest of the three. Metallic films (silver, gold, chrome, brushed) give a single reflective colour and read as more restrained, which often suits a logo better. Glitter film has a sparkle texture rather than a colour shift. All three are available for cut vinyl decals as well as printed stickers, and cut vinyl in a metallic or holographic film is a genuinely different look from a printed sticker with a foil background. Shapes, sizes and sets
Holographic stickers are contour cut like any printed sticker — die cut as individual pieces, or kiss cut onto a backing so they peel off a sheet. Merch runs are often better as sticker sheets, where several designs share one backing and the whole sheet becomes the product. Sizes run from about an inch up to large single panels.
Outdoors, and how long they last
Holographic stickers take the same UV laminate as the rest of our printed work, so they handle weather, water bottles and being carried around. The foil layer itself does not fade the way ink does, but the printed artwork over it will eventually, so expect a few years outdoors in direct sun and considerably longer on a laptop or a guitar case. Hand wash anything that goes on drinkware.
What to send us
Vector artwork (SVG, PDF, AI, EPS) is ideal because the unprinted areas that make the effect work need clean edges. A high-resolution PNG with a genuinely transparent background also works — a white background in the file will print as white ink and kill the effect, which is the single most common file problem on these. How do I get a quote?
Email info@signs613.com or send the request form on this site — both land in the same inbox. Tell us the size, the quantity and where it is going, and attach your artwork or a photo. A real person replies with a clear price and turnaround. We do not publish a phone number; if you would rather be called, leave your number in the form and say so.
Do you ship across Canada?
Yes — standard shipping is free anywhere in Canada. Expedited shipping is available on request; tell us your deadline and we will quote it alongside the free option.
Will I see a proof first?
Always. Every job gets a proof by email showing size, colour, spelling and layout, and nothing is cut or printed until you approve it.
How long does it take?
Most decal, sticker and lettering jobs are made within about five business days of proof approval, plus shipping. Larger signs and installations are scheduled with you. In a hurry? Say so and we will tell you honestly what is possible.
What file format should I send?
Vector artwork (SVG, PDF, AI or EPS) stays sharp at any size. A high-resolution PNG or JPG also works — at least 150 DPI at the finished size. We check it at the size you need and tell you before printing if it will not hold up.
Are printed stickers waterproof?
Yes. The UV laminate seals the ink against water, sun and scuffing, so rain, car washes and water bottles are fine. Dishwashers are harsher than weather and will eventually lift edges, so hand-wash anything you want to keep.
What surfaces will a vinyl decal stick to?
Vinyl wants smooth, clean and non-porous. Glass, painted or enamelled metal, powder-coated panels, sealed or varnished wood, acrylic and smooth rigid plastics all hold well. Gloss and semi-gloss painted drywall is fine; flat paint is less reliable and heavy texture is a gamble. It will not hold on brick, concrete, stucco, raw or weathered wood, or anything chalky or flaking — there is nothing continuous for the adhesive to grip. Send a close-up photo of the surface if you are unsure and we will tell you before you order.
Can you ship cut vinyl decals to my province?
Yes — every province and territory, with free standard shipping. Cut vinyl travels better than almost anything else a sign shop makes: it ships flat or rolled, pre-masked with transfer tape, so it arrives ready to apply and there is no surcharge for distance. The same decal costs a customer in British Columbia what it costs one in Ontario. Expedited shipping is quoted on request — tell us your deadline when you ask. Only installation stays local, across the Belleville, Kingston and Napanee area.
What if something is wrong when it arrives?
Custom work cannot be returned for a change of mind, because it is made specifically for you — but if it arrives faulty, damaged or not as proofed, contact us within 14 days with a photo and we will remake or refund it.
